The owner, 2026-10-18: "lets make the venture loop 1 venture per day. would rather 1 higher quality".
Today made four ventures. Three came from batch #26: it was migrated from GitHub with no Time beats, so the loop treated it as a new batch. The fourth was the daily card #147. Every page passed its checks on the first build (sonnet, 10 steps), so nothing pushed any of them past "works".
One a day
The day's card starts only once every other open venture card is launched or held (waiting_on), so one venture gets the day's worker runs and budget. start=true still starts one on demand.
An open venture-batch card runs only while TIME_VENTURE_BATCH is set, or once it has Time's beats. A migrated card no longer starts a three-venture batch. Batch #26 is already launched and just finishes measuring.
Quality
Field: the seats pitch in rounds, each round told what is already pitched, until there are TIME_VENTURE_FIELD pitches (6). The board picks one from that field. Before, it was one pitch per seat.
Builder:claude:opus is the default builder (BUILDER). TIME_VENTURE_WORKER=claude:opus is already set on this repo.
Score: the judge (fable) still does the honesty review. It now also scores the product 1–10 as a stranger would and names the three changes that would most raise the score.
Polish rounds: a page under TIME_VENTURE_BAR (8) gets a polish round (POLISH_BODY) with the judge's notes.
Fix and polish rounds share TIME_VENTURE_FIXES (now 3; it was 2).
Polish never takes the last round, which stays free to fix whatever a polish broke.
After that, a page still under the bar launches with its score in the launch post. Quality never holds a launch for a human; only a broken page goes to the andon.
Cost
One opus venture is roughly 1.7× a sonnet one, plus up to two polish rounds.
That replaces today's four sonnet ventures, so daily spend goes down overall.
The daily and monthly caps are unchanged.
Tests
New test 79b covers: waiting_on; the pitch field (rounds, what each round is told, a batch still wants 2k); the judge's score parsing ("6/10", junk, booleans, >10); polish_for (bar, reserved last round, real problems win); the overridable settings; POLISH_BODY.
Test 79 now expects opus as the default builder.
test_time.py passes locally (ALL OK 79b).
No workflow change, so the new defaults live in the code. Making them Actions variables later needs venture.yml env lines, which is a human merge.

**One a day**
- The day's card starts only once every other open venture card is launched or held (`waiting_on`), so one venture gets the day's worker runs and budget. `start=true` still starts one on demand.
- An open `venture-batch` card runs only while `TIME_VENTURE_BATCH` is set, or once it has Time's beats. A migrated card no longer starts a three-venture batch. Batch #26 is already launched and just finishes measuring.

The day's card starts only once every other venture card is launched or held; the board picks one from a field of
TIME_VENTURE_FIELD (6) pitches; opus builds; the judge scores the product 1-10 and a page under TIME_VENTURE_BAR (8)
gets polish rounds (never the last of TIME_VENTURE_FIXES=3, kept for fixes), then launches with its score. An open
batch card with no Time beats (migrated) no longer starts a batch while batches are off.
